Ameriprise Financial recently disclosed another data breach, marking the second cybersecurity incident involving the firm in less than six months. According to a filing with Maine state regulators, the breach affected 47,876 individuals, including 335 Maine residents.
According to AdvisorHub, Ameriprise reported that an unauthorized individual accessed certain stored data and files between March 2 and March 18. The compromised information included customer names and other personal identifiers. The firm states that it is offering complimentary identity protection services to affected individuals.
AdvisorHub reports that, in a letter filed with Maine regulators, Jennifer Swihart, Ameriprise's director of compliance, stated that "an unauthorized individual gained access to certain Ameriprise stored data and files, which may have included your personal information." She added that the company was treating the matter "with the highest level of care and attention."
Swihart also explained that Ameriprise blocked the unauthorized individual and immediately launched an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity experts. AdvisorHub reports that she further stated that the company identified no unauthorized transactions or movement of funds connected to the incident.
According to AdvisorHub, an Ameriprise spokesperson emphasized that the incident caused "no disruption to business operations" despite the unauthorized access to certain company data and files. The firm did not disclose how the individual gained access to its system.
As previously reported by AdvisorHub, the latest breach follows a separate cybersecurity incident disclosed in December 2025. At that time, Ameriprise informed customers that a phishing scam targeted one of its advisors earlier in the month. The firm stated that the incident potentially exposed information belonging to 598 individuals, including 52 Maine residents.
